Beech Desk University Residence in France, Jean Zay, 1950, Roger Landault
By Roger Landault
Located in Paris, FR
Very very rare Furniture having equipped a university residence in France. . Flat desk in stained beech and opening with a fully painted side drawer ; melamine top. . The profiled legs, the top finished in a chamfer on its underside circumference. . Brass drawer handle. . State of use, wear, many scratches, accidents and losses, painted in black. . I also have another one as you can see on the video, in another color. . Need to be restored but this is a piece of Franch design History...:) . H. 74 cm W. 131 cm D. 71 cm Provenance : University residence - France - 1950 Roger Landault . This office by Robert Charroy bears the marks of its use, and for good reason, it has equipped the Jean Zay university residence, for which it was designed. The patina of time therefore takes on all its charm, with a touch of nostalgia for some. This piece of furniture tells the story of an exceptional context, that of the student housing project launched in the emergency of post-war reconstruction, in 1948, and which has evolved to become the most ambitious university pilot program in Europe. In 1954, he offered to accommodate 3,000 students in functionally furnished accommodation and common areas, thanks to two competitions organized in 1955 and 1956. The watchword: quality produced at a lower cost using industrial processes . A beautiful playground for designers, including Jean Prouvé and Charlotte Perriand Marcel Gascoin, Roger Landault, Jean Lesage...

In vintage condition. . Ron Arad, a British designer of Israeli origin, was born in 1951 in Tel Aviv. First trained at the Jerusalem Academy of Art, Ron Arad then studied at the Architectural Association School in London in 1973. . Ron Arad's first creations are furniture made with metal tubes and called "one-offs" because they are unique pieces. One Off is also the name of his first company. Ron Arad became famous in the early 1970s, thanks to the creation of seats inspired by the armchairs of a Rover, seats that he found in a car junkyard. Also among Ron Arad's best-known pieces are the Bookworm shelf from 1993 and the Tom Vac chair from 1997. His surprising work makes him a free creator without constraints or borders who navigates between design, architecture and plastic arts. Ron Arad uses materials such as plastic, polished steel or aluminum to create elements made of aerial scrolls. His creations with sinusoidal, elliptical or ovoid shapes range from unique pieces to industrial production, including limited series. In 2008, the Center Pompidou presents a retrospective of his work, entitled "No Discipline". There are major and emblematic pieces of the artist, prototypes accompanied by audiovisuals, limited series and objects of industrial production as well as numerous architectural projects. Ron Arad, whose works are exhibited in museums and galleries around the world, creates pieces for renowned houses such as Vitra, Kartell, Moroso, Artemide and Alessi. . Jean Tinguely, born May 22, 1925 in Friborg and died August 30, 1991 in Bern, was a Swiss sculptor, painter and draftsman. With his second wife, Niki de Saint Phalle, he created gigantic...
