Professionally framed with black and gilt frames and beige silk mats, with margins, apparently in excellent condition, not examined out of the frames.
Vanity Fair was a weekly magazine published in London, founded & edited by Thomas Gibson Bowles. His aim was to expose to contemporary vanities of Victorian society. From 1868 to 1914, full page colour lithographs appeared in most weekly issues, frequently lampooning or lauding their subjects which included artists, athletes, royalty, politicians, scientists, authors, actors, sportsmen, lawyers, diplomats, soldiers, clergy, scholars and other celebrities of the day - mostly British, but also many other internationally significant personalities. Over 2,300 of these colour cartoons were printed, and they are considered the chief cultural legacy of the magazine, forming a pictorial record of many of the most significant public figures of the period. They are renowned throughout the world and highly collectible and recognisable. Famous artists contributed to Vanity Fair, typically under pen names. The best remembered today is Leslie Ward (1851-1922), who signed his works as "Spy", and whose caricatures account for well over half of those featured in Vanity Fair. Late 19th c., France, a pair of Napoleon III gilt bronze and champlevé candelabra. Four neoclassical column supports are surmounted by five candle cups, on an enamel decorated plinth. Both are unmarked.
The beautifully decorated square base is delicately referenced in the square elements under the candle cups and between the column supports. These candelabras are of superb quality. The four champlevé panels on the sides of each base are beautifully executed. The direction of the design alternates around the sides of each candelabra.
Champlevé Enameling:
A decorative technique that fuses a powdered glassy material into a recess in a metal surface through the application of heat.
Dimensions:
9.5"h x 9"squ
Condition:
Good, some areas of wear to gilding with spots of verdigris and wax residue. The enamel is well preserved.

An attractive vintage 20th c., crystal table clock signed "Daum - France" on the crystal. The quartz clock mechanism also has a stylized Daum signature located below 12 o'clock. At 10' square, the clock has a strong visual presence.
History And Meaning Of Anemones:
It was believed that the flower sprang from the blood of the slain Adonis, who was a lover of the goddess Aphrodite. As such, anemones were often seen as a symbol of love and passion. In Victorian England, anemones were given as gifts to express love and anticipation.
Founded in 1878, Daum Nancy crystal is still recognized for its manufacturing expertise. It owes its fame to master glassmaker Antonin Daum.
