These vintage embroidered choli tops are incredibly rare and special: their ages range from the early to mid 20th Century, and all of them were embroidered by hand by the Rabari people in what is now Northwest India. The Rabari people are an ethnic group, who today reside primarily in northern and central India, and Pakistan. They have long been known for their impressive embroidery, which traditionally is painstaking completed by hand in vibrant colors. (The Rabari men are known for dressing in all white, while the women dress very colorfully.) NOTE: This listing is for the CRIMSON (red) top. There are three tops in total, available in different colorways: JADE, INDIGO, CRIMSON. Each one is available in my shop. The embroidery in each top is unique, as described below. All of them were found without the original tie closure, so they have been modified with the covered elastic back strap; the strap attaches to the top with hidden hook/eye closures. The tops vary somewhat in their measurements but note that they will best fit a petite frame; the elastic back does offer some flexibility as it stretches. The arm openings are on the small side, especially at the binding, but on all tops they get roomier at the top towards the shoulder. It was made by designer Lorraine Budny for the brand Sportwhirl, which was founded in 1945 as a "separates house," specializing in pieces a woman could wear both separately and as a set— quite a novelty at the time, as store-bought dresses at all were not all that readily available. VERY BREEZY presents: This is the dream vintage wiggle dress! The shape is so perfectly 1960s, from the way its fitted through the hips to the bateau neckline— so flattering and the perfect amount of sexy! This piece was sourced in Italy, although it was made in the US. It's embroidered all over with sequins in a squiggling formation. The paillettes are of such a great quality (nothing like the cheap sequins that are so commonplace in modern garments). A small slit in the back back makes it easy to move. This vintage Christian Lacroix skirt features the most uniquely whimsical print, but the shape makes it quite versatile. Made in the 1990s, it features a print of florals, Eiffel Towers, opera glasses and masks, in a great colorful palette that really pops agains the black. The skirt has a high waist, with a super fitted/pegged shape that tapers towards the knee, and pockets at the hips. The fabric is 100% cotton, but it has a sheen and feels more like silk! It's fully lined and exceptionally well made. Note: It is unfortunately missing the Christian Lacroix label, but this identical print was used by him.
