About the Item
As a more recent fashion brand, Marni experiments with textiles, and prints in order to create kitschy, and feminine styles. Hailing from Italy, founding designer Consuelo Castiglioni has made use of vivid color-blocking, and unpredictable forms, having just recently stepped down from her position as designer. Of Castiglioni Fashionista notes that “she’s a woman who designed clothes women [want] to wear.” Representative of this playfulness with textures, and textiles, this Marni hat is layered with hundreds of beige, paper-thin, taffeta petals added individually on a conical base that hint at the shape of a pine cone. Versions of this hat were produced in a variety of colors, and have been featured not only in Marni’s Spring 2008 Ready to Wear show in Milan, but also have appeared in Vogue in several editorial spreads. This fun hat offers a quirky vibe, whilst conveying a feminine softness through the delicate texture of the fabric, and visual lightness. Such a design in form and design essence pays homage to similar hat styles popularized by Pierre Cardin in the 1960s.
