1800's c.1825 Swansdown Swan Feather Palatine Stole Museum Piece Rare Antique

About the Item

Extremely rare c.1825 swans-down feather palatine stole. Incredibly soft swansdown is hand-tied on a coarsely woven natural fiber base. This piece is nearly identical to item 1983.157.2a from the Metropolitan Museum of Art Collection, and also very similar to pieces in the Museum of Fine arts Boston (46.703) and the Kyoto Costume Institute (AC5646 87-27-1) **Please note a top and pair of pants were photographed that are NOT included in this sale** Measurements: Total Length: 53" (measured end to end) Length: 43" (shoulder to tip)

1820-1829

Condition:

Wear consistent with age and use. Extraordinary condition for its age. Small area of slight discoloration at the right shoulder. Some very minor discoloration and wear to the feathers at the neckline. Please refer to photos.
