1960s True Vintage Brown Suede Embroidered Afghan Coat

About the Item

This original late 1960s to early 1970s Afghan leather and fur-lined coat is one of the best we've seen in over a decade. Afghan coats became the height of fashion in the 1960s hippie scene, worn by John Lennon, David Bowie and Jimi Hendrix. In 2000, Kate Hudson famously wore one to play the Penny Lane in the film Almost Famous, starting another iteration of the trend. Cut from thick chocolate-brown suede, this coat is lined with luscious, super cosy sheepskin in a natural creamy-beige hue. The collar and cuffs are also lined in sheepskin, this time in a darker chocolate brown. The detail around the collar and cuffs is elaborate; blue and cream cross-stitching, twisted leather embroidery, waves of red leather secured with yellow and navy thread and pretty floral embroidery. The front fastens with hidden hook-and-eye clasps that are large and sturdy to secure a coat of this weight. A fantastic example and true vintage piece that is becoming increasingly rare to find, this heavy, intricately hand-detailed coat is guaranteed to keep you warm no matter the weather. In superb vintage condition with only some light grazes on the back through age and wear. Due the hand crafted nature of these early coats, there are no composition or size labels so please check the measurements below as the leather has no stretch. We estimate this will fit a range of sizes up to a UK 12 or US 8. MEASUREMENTS CLOSED BUST - 40 in. (102 cm) WAIST - 40 in. (102 cm) HIP - 44 in. (112 cm) LENGTH - 30 in. (76 cm) SHOULDERS - 18 in.
