About the Item

Very rare and stunning cotton voile maxi dress with handkerchief hem and woven metal ribbon accents designed by Thea Porter dating to 1971. This ethereal bohemian dress captures Thea Porter's iconic 1970's aesthetic, blending Eastern influences with romantic design. Made from lightweight sheer cotton voile, the dress features a fitted lined bodice with an allover floral print and a keyhole neckline trimmed in woven metal ribbon. The full, sheer sleeves in contrasting wavy stripe fabric hit just below the elbow and gather at the cuff. The skirt transitions from floral to a diagonal wavy stripe pattern in soft pink, blue, green, and gold. A wide band of the floral print reappears at the hem, framed by more woven metal ribbon. The high-low handkerchief hemline creates great movement. The silhouette is very flattering. This is a quintessential example of Thea Porter's look—bohemian, artistic, and effortless. Similar dresses photographed on Charlotte Rampling, Jane Fonda and more recently the same dress in another color-way on Kate Moss. Labeled a British 10, although best this fits a US 2 Approximate measurements: shoulder 10" (although room for shoulders in billowy sleeve, sleeve length 18", bust 31.5-32" (fit 32" mannequin), waist 24-25", hips full and overall length 57". Pauline Trigère Abstract Floral Print Cotton Kimono Angel-Sleeve Dress, 1960s
Located in Boca Raton, FL
Pauline Trigère was a prominent figure in putting American designers on the map. Like many of the acclaimed French couturiers, she was an expert at tailoring and had an eye for interesting volumes. However true-to-form of the American aesthetic, Trigère designs are known for their relative simplicity and elegance through ease. From the late 1960s, this magnificent dress is a fine example of why Trigère’s designs were so beloved in Hollywood during that period. Done in a woven cotton featuring an abstract floral print in white, chartreuse, pink, lavender, and ochre on a navy ground, this dress is a wearable work of art. The bodice begins with a high round collar and has incredible sheer kimono...
