About the Item

A regal piece of outerwear whose weight belies its warmth, this exquisite silk velvet mantle is as pleasing to the eye as it is to the touch. Vertical ruching creates drape and texture enough for it to hold its own when paired with drop waist flapper dresses or glamorous evening gowns, while the lacquered satin lining feels heavenly against the skin. From Crowell's Ready-to-Wear Shop, which catered to young university women of good breeding and excellent taste (excerpt below): •University of Northern Colorado campus newspaper, Oct 1929• "Crowell’s Ready-to-Wear Shop - Formerly the Classic Shop / 816 Eighth St. Phone 845 Formal Dresses for your Sorority Parties and dainty little form-fitting dresses with uneven hem-lines. The new silhouette styles are longer in back than front and are very slenderizing." Thigh-length mantle with banded collar and plain front and back curved inset yoke; falls to knee in back and low thigh in front. Vertical ruching from yoke bottom to hem around full circumference; self-piped placket edges and scalloped hemline. No sleeves or arm holes; single covered toggle button closure at throat.
