A small cape cloak with a large bonnet or Visite, also known as a Ramoneur in Provence. The printed cotton with bâton rompu design dates from the first half of the 19th century and was probably made in Alsace. Wax-resist printed cotton for the black and green background and woodblock printed for the bâton rompu floral motifs. Large matching ruffle around the edge and on the bonnet and lining in Mignonette floral and picoté Indian on a red and blue background. The lining is flawless and has retained its original finish. Excellent colour and condition.
