About the Item

Of all the textile designers of the twentieth century, few had as impressive a roster of clients as Gustav Zumsteg for Abraham of Switzerland. Cristobal Balenciaga, Hubert de Givenchy and Yves Saint Laurent all turned to him for his luxurious fabrics that would make their creations come to life. While the designer of this haute couture evening coat is unknown, it is likely he or she also sourced from Abraham of Switzerland. The silk faille from which it is impeccably handcrafted is magnificent, with a shimmering copper background out of which swirl delicious blooms of orange, magenta, purple and yellow. The roomy silhouette with its Watteau pleat at the back, open collar and leg-o’-mutton sleeves enhances the beauty of the gorgeous pattern. This is a collector’s treasure. Although the designer label has fallen out of the coat, it is still numbered and boasts all fine details you would expect of a museum-worthy piece. Size estimate: S/M Measurements: Shoulders: 14 inches Sleeves: 23 inches Bust: Up to 40 inches Waist: Open Length: 51 inches This vintage haute couture evening coat is in excellent condition. The designer label has fallen out, but it still bears its number. It is handcrafted from a silk faille floral most likely sourced from Abraham of Switzerland. The pattern of orange, magenta, purple and yellow blooms is on a shimmering copper background. The roomy silhouette has a Watteau pleat at the back, an open collar, leg-o’-mutton sleeves, pockets at the hips and a full copper silk lining. A single hidden snap closes the front. 1970s Mac Tac of Paris Floral Printed Nylon Jersey Cape Dress
By Mac Tac
Located in Boca Raton, FL
In collaboration with the renowned Paris house of prints, Leonard, the graphic and print designer Mac Tac offered this zany, almost surrealist print for this 1970s silk nylon jersey maxi dress. The print also features large orchids throughout, which is the signature Leonard flower. Done in a silky nylon jersey, the dress features an eclectic print of alternating stripes of white cut-out starbursts and marmalade orange and yellow starbursts on a black ground. This sleeveless dress comes with an attached capelet overlay piece that may be pulled back and worn over the shoulders, revealing another pattern of white starbursts...

Pauline Trigère Abstract Floral Print Cotton Kimono Angel-Sleeve Dress, 1960s
Located in Boca Raton, FL
Pauline Trigère was a prominent figure in putting American designers on the map. Like many of the acclaimed French couturiers, she was an expert at tailoring and had an eye for interesting volumes. However true-to-form of the American aesthetic, Trigère designs are known for their relative simplicity and elegance through ease. From the late 1960s, this magnificent dress is a fine example of why Trigère’s designs were so beloved in Hollywood during that period. Done in a woven cotton featuring an abstract floral print in white, chartreuse, pink, lavender, and ochre on a navy ground, this dress is a wearable work of art. The bodice begins with a high round collar and has incredible sheer kimono...
