About the Item

This Art Deco inspired printed midi dress was designed in the 1970s by celebrated British designer Jeff Banks although it is unlabelled. The dress was purchased with a large group of outstanding items from the designer, all labelled, and some of which we are selling alongside this design. Tailored from a good quality man-made viscose in latte-biege with navy and white horizontal lines and bold, florals in orange, red and yellow. Cut to a short-sleeve style, it recalls the tea-dress silhouettes popularised in the 1930s and 1940s. The neckline is squared and the back fastens with polished navy buttons through fabric loops. The weighty skirt is lined with satin in salmon pink. It is box-pleated at the waistband and falls to the bottom of the calf. There is a detachable, coordinating fabric belt at the waist. The top of the dress is unlined. This dress is in excellent vintage condition with no flaws of any note and looks barely worn. Unlabelled so please double check the measurements below as the fabric has no stretch. We believe this would best fit up to a size UK 10 or US 6. Notes on Designer: Jeff Banks was a pivotal member of the swinging 60s London fashion scene when he cofounded 'Clobber' in Blackheath Village, London, in 1964. The boutique carried both his own designs and the work of other designers and attracted celebrities such as Terence Stamp and Jean Shrimpton, Twiggy and some of the Beatles. It proved such a success that in 1969, he launched his own fashion label, opening the first standalone Jeff Banks shop, as well as retail outlets in twenty-two department stores including Harrods and Harvey Nichols.
