About the Item

While the variety and particularity of kimono types can be complex, the cut of a kimono is intentionally simple. Minimal seaming allows the beauty of the fabric to reveal itself unencumbered by darts and tucks. A kimono has geometric unity in its use of uncut narrow-width fabric, which forms all elements. The cultural impression of the kimono was an eye-opener to the western world, and remains a stunning blend of elegance and cultural significance that has taken the fashion world by storm. Made from silk, this beautiful 1970’s kimono features a simple and bold tie dye print of cream flowers on a saturated orange ground. The lower half of the kimono is done in a textured bright fuchsia silk, with an abstract design of swirls, flowers, and interlocking rectangles done in a deeper shade of fuchsia. The neckline and sleeves are edged in a band of fuchsia silk, offering a nice contrast to the tie dye print while further enhancing the lines of the body. The kimono is fully lined in fuchsia silk, featuring the same textured design as the fuchsia silk on the front of the kimono. Once reversed, the garment ingeniously reveals a second kimono just as beautiful as the one before. Size estimate: S/M Bust, waist, hips: 36 inches Sleeves: 23 inches (measured from neckline) Length: 32 inches The shorter haori style of this kimono dates to the 1940’s, and features voluminous three-quarter length sleeves with dramatic drops that extend down to hip level. This brightly colored kimono is the perfect addition to a spring or summer wardrobe and can easily be worn as an evening coat or paired with jeans and a tee for a more laid-back look. In excellent condition, this reversable 1970’s kimono has been professionally eco-dry cleaned and pressed. High-quality vintage pieces like this are yours to live in and love while increasing in value every year. It’s never too soon to start collecting them, as an investment in your wardrobe—and in yourself. - Follow us on Instagram @BASHAGOLD

Widespread ideas about globalization were characteristic of the 1970s. Combined with the new fashion movements that relied on the use of vivid color, inspiration from Japanese dress fit this aesthetic. The traditional Japanese kimono, often featuring vivid yet pastel hues and floral embroidery is reimaged in this vintage recreation. Done in silk, this garment showcases an avian motif with tones of blush, red-orange, cornflower, green, and gold with oriental styled clouds in the background. This motif is bordered by panels of solid fuchsia. Unlike the original kimono, this garment has a loose, careening fit that would work great as an easy cover up or light jacket addition to add a bright pop of color to any outfit.
