About the Item

While the variety and particularity of kimono types can be complex, the cut of a kimono is intentionally simple. Minimal seaming allows the beauty of the fabric to reveal itself unencumbered by darts and tucks. A kimono has geometric unity in its use of uncut narrow-width fabric, which forms all elements. The cultural impression of the kimono was an eye-opener to the Western world, and remains a stunning blend of elegance and cultural significance that has taken the fashion world by storm. Done in a textured matte silk, this incredible 1940s kimono features a print of white and blue birds in flight on a purple ground. White and blue squares create abstract patterns throughout and comprise several of the bird’s wings, adding definition while giving the kimono a pleasing visual movement of its own. The print is punctuated throughout with red bird beaks and several strategically placed red coral-shaped elements that make the design pop while giving the eye something new to appreciate from each angle. Size estimate: SML/MED/ LRG Shoulders: 24 inches (dropped shoulder) Bust: 42 Waist: 42 Hip: 44 Length: 37 inches The shorter haori style of this kimono dates to the 1940’s, and features voluminous three-quarter length sleeves with dramatic drops that extend down to hip level. Once reversed, this garment ingeniously reveals a second kimono just as beautiful as the one before. The interior is partially lined in an exquisite textured orange silk that features a swirling floral print in shades of periwinkle, light pink, gold, and pale green. This brightly colored kimono is the perfect addition to the discerning fashion lover’s wardrobe, and can easily be styled as a spring evening coat or paired with jeans and a tee for a more laid-back look. In very good condition save for a small spot on the orange silk that can’t be removed, this reversible Japanese silk kimono has been professionally eco-dry cleaned and pressed. High-quality vintage pieces like this are yours to live in and love while increasing in value every year. It’s never too soon to start co collecting them, as an investment in your wardrobe—and in yourself. - Follow us on Instagram @BASHAGOLD

The traditional Japanese kimono, often featuring vivid yet pastel hues and floral embroidery is reimaged in this vintage recreation. Done in silk, this garment showcases an avian motif with tones of blush, red-orange, cornflower, green, and gold with oriental styled clouds in the background. This motif is bordered by panels of solid fuchsia. Unlike the original kimono, this garment has a loose, careening fit that would work great as an easy cover up or light jacket addition to add a bright pop of color to any outfit.
