About the Item
An antique Chainmail Purse from the Art Nouveau era. Chainmail purses were de rigueur during this period and were often relatively plain in design - this is an exception. The clasp design features mythical sea creatures atop a wonderful, broad frame chased with vines. The bag itself larger in scale than most and in good overall condition including the original chain which can be worn long or doubled - the latter being typical. A fabulous find that would be cherished by a collector and adored when worn.
Vintage Condition: Very good overall. Some tiny holes in the chainmail section which is quite minimal for bags of this type and age. Would still support light / appropriate wear as was designed.
Materials: Stamped ALPACCA indicating Nickel Silver (a silver alloy) most likely manufactured in Austria or Germany
Fastening: Kiss clasp
Approximate Dimensions: Frame : 17.5cm wide. Overall 22cm tall, Chain strap : 49cm long
