About the Item

A charmingly unique 1930’s Austrian petit point handbag with double compartments and coordinating accessories including a powder compact, cigarette case and mirror. It has a flat silhouette with a distinctive crescent handle and an interior brass frame. Both sides open with snap closures. One side is lined with black moire fabric and pockets that house the compact, cigarette case and mirror. There is a sleeve that would be the right size for a lipstick tube but the lipstick is missing in action. The compact and cigarette case have glass embellished kisslock closures and the mirror is backed in moire. The alternate side is a large open pocket which is perfect for carrying money, cards and even a cell phone! This piece is old world Austrian charm at its best. CONDITION Overall the handbag is in good to fair condition with signs of age, use and wear. The petit point panels are in very good condition with no apparent flaws. There is some wear to the edges of the fabric at the brass frame. Both the powder compact and cigarette case show some wear to the needlework which primarily presents itself as a little fading and some soiling. Though it has been cleaned, the powder compact continues to show powder residue and the mirror shows age. The fabric backed mirror has lost its reflective abilities. The original lipstick tube is missing in action. Though it sounds like a laundry list, this special piece continues to charm with its unique shape and attention to details. MEASUREMENTS The body of the handbag measures 6.5” wide x 6.75” tall x 1.25” deep. The handle measures 5” wide x 2” tall and provides a 2” drop.
