1937 Sterling Silver & Marcasite Tapestry Needlework Bag
About the Item
Exceptional art deco black grosgrain fabric and tapestry bag with hand-stitched floral needlework motive which features on both sides. The frame is solid sterling silver with import marks for London 1937 - 1938. The makers' mark is R L & Co. The frame is highly decorated on the front with hundreds of marcasite stones in the art deco style. The handle is heavyweight grosgrain ribbon. Satin lined, the label reads Luxury Needlepoint Tapestries and the address 36 Beauchamp Place. This is the location of an exclusive parade of shops in Knightsbridge, London and around the corner from Harrods. Inside, there is a small coin purse and a mirror - both fit neatly into the pockets located either side of the bag. The bag comfortably fits a large smart phone with room to spare. In truly excellent vintage condition with a clean interior, the bag has seen little wear during its lifetime.
