Antique XXL Stone Water Reservoir Pot, Handcrafted in India, 19th Century

About the Item

This vintage stone water reservoir pot from India, often referred to as a "matka" or "ghara," would typically be used for storing and cooling water. These pots were designed to keep water cool through the natural process of evaporation, which occurs as water seeps through the porous surface of the pot and evaporates, cooling the remaining water inside. The pots were common in the regions such as the Southern and Eastern States (Tamil Nadu, Karnataka): where they are used for both cooling water and for religious purposes. This XXL stone-grey pot has a diameter of 110cm, a beautiful patina and handles that are still in tact. This item can be crated and shipped internationally.
