About the Item

Size: Depth *3cm Width *87cm Height *173cm 8kg Estimated packing size: (Sandwich with 4-5mm plywood) 12 × 100 × 185cm 20kg This is an old fittings of ita-e (wooden board painting) from the end of Edo period to about Meiji period. It may have been used in temples and other places, and some parts are noticeably darkened by soot, etc. I think it was vividly colored in those days. Many itae fittings were used in very fine buildings. The ancient architecture by Japanese craftsmen is magnificent, but it is rare to see painters joining in to enrich and decorate the interiors. The surface has been intentionally given a rough texture by a technique called “Suna Zuri(sand rubbing)”. The peony face and the bamboo face, although the coloring on the leaves has been lost, are dull and atmospheric doors. The fittings are damaged, with cracks and insect marks on the edges, so it is recommended to be used for decoration.
