Early 20th Century Carved Chinese Wedding Bed Fascia/Bed header
About the Item
Beautifully hand-crafted from pine and beech wood, this intricate marriage bed fascia would be a real talking point in a modern home. It originates from southern China - Jiangsu province, with wonderful carvings in deep relief set within symmetrical, geometric patterns. The five main upper carvings show various characters and scenes from Chinese mythology - one figure on Kylinback on the center top and two bearded man sitting aside table with their servants following. These are beautifully detailed and now aged in subtle contrast with the background rather than in more vibrant colors.
The base of each side section has a square shaped panel carved against a war background showing pine tree and wall. A wonderful, rare and original piece that could be used today as a unique headboard or as an eye-catching wall feature.
