A superb and one-of-a-kind pair of large Japanese hibachi (charcoal braziers), crafted from kiri wood and richly decorated with makie gold lacquer. The surfaces are adorned with elegant motifs of hand fans, executed with extraordinary precision and detail — hallmarks of aristocratic taste and refined craftsmanship.
Dating to the late Edo to early Meiji period, these hibachi were likely commissioned for a high-ranking noble household. The extensive and intricate makie work, combined with the warmth of natural paulownia wood and the soft glow of the copper inserts, elevate these pieces beyond functional objects into the realm of fine art.
