Japanese bronze sculpture “Horse in reverence”, Showa era

About the Item

An Amazing sculpture made in bronze, in the Showa Era, in Japan. It represents a horse in a singular posture, with its front legs open, as if it were crouching or bowing. A moment of movement or action is captured, this unusual position gives it great expressiveness. The animal is decorated with luxurious floral print fabrics, which add a touch of color to the piece, standing out for its delicate relief on the straps of the saddle. The horse has been an important symbol in Japanese culture since ancient times, where it played both military and spiritual roles. In Shinto tradition, the horse is considered the sacred mount of the kami (deities), and horses or representations of them were offered as offerings in rituals. This sculpture not only reflects the respect and veneration for the animal, but also Japan's deep connection with its religious and cultural symbolism. The anatomical detail of the horse is remarkable, displaying a realistic modeling that highlights its elegance and stylized bearing. The piece refers to a time when horses were not only a tool of war, but also a being loaded with spiritual and cultural meaning in Japan. The sculpture belongs to the Showa Era (1926-1989), a period of great transformation in Japan, marked by the rise of modernity and interaction with Western cultural influences. During this time, Japanese arts experienced a fusion of ancient traditions with new artistic approaches. In the context of the Showa Era, this bronze piece reflects both the continuity of the traditional veneration for the horse and a contemporary reinterpretation of its figure, fusing classical elements with a more modern aesthetic. A one of a kind piece with a high aesthetic charge, for an exigent art collector Technical data Material: Bronze Period: Showa Era (1926-1989) Country of origin: Japan Good condition according to its age and use Dimensions: 40 x 55 x 15 cm.
