About the Item

In 19th century Tibet, many men would have carried a flint striker along with several other tools that could help ensure survival in the often-harsh climate of the Tibetan Plateau. Known as mechag, such strikers would hang from one's belt and doubled as a small pouch for flint and tinder. This leather flint pouch is more elaborate than most, decorated with a silver dorje, a symbol of wisdom.
