wabi sabi reclaimed boat wood wall decor, bamboos engraved. circa 1870s-1920s

About the Item

Wooden wall decor made of a piece of reclaimed wood from antique wood river boat. Words & bamboos engraved, together with the signature. Strings for hanging attached. manufactured circa 1870s-1920s, Meiji to Taisho period, estimate from the condition & style. Reclaimed boat wood is deeply grained by using circumstance, almost like a driftwood, recognized as "Furyu (having sophisticated aesthetics in cultural matters)" since Edo period, used as the decorations of Tea house, and the signs & counters in the restaurants. This piece is aimed to use as "Hashira kake (the decoration for the columns) ", so the shape is thin, long and narrow to fit the column. Original colors slightly remains on the bamboo engraved area & the signature "stamp" area (in traditional Japanese art, the artist usually put their own original stamp, called Rakkan, as a signature - so this was engraved & colored like a stamp). Altogether, it brings a genuine wabi sabi touch. Actual item weight : 2.65 lb (1.2 kg) *** We're eco-friendly, organic-oriented vintage wood furniture & fitting seller.
