About the Item

A striking black lacquer table or jewellery cabinet, exquisitely decorated with Oriental figures and pagodas throughout. Mid-19th century. A highly desirable and sought after model. This exceptional cabinet serves as both a practical storage piece for precious jewels and objets d'art, while simultaneously standing as a masterwork of Oriental craftsmanship. Such refined pieces were highly sought after among England's most discerning collectors during the height of the chinoiserie movement. The finest establishments in London and Paris commissioned these exquisite works—including lacquerware, botanical gouaches, and reverse-painted glass—directly from Far East's master artisans for their most distinguished European clientele.
