19th Century Japanese Cloisonne Enamel Meiji Floral Box

About the Item

An antique Japanese, late Meiji era, covered enamel over brass jewelry or trinket box. The exterior of the ware is enameled with polychrome images of blossoming flowers surrounded by a foliate scroll ornament made in the Cloisonne technique. The base is adorned with floral, foliage, and scaly motifs made in the same technique. The cover features a polychrome enamel medallion depicting a bird in blossoming flowers surrounded by floral and foliage patterns made in the Cloisonne technique. Unmarked.
