Chinese Export Hardstone and Gilt Silver Filigree Peacock Box, 1920's, China
About the Item
An exquisite Chinese export peacock from hardstone and gilt silver filigree canister box, Republic Period, circa 1920's, China.
The graceful and elegant hardstone container of cylindrical canister form mounted with gilt silver filigree and enamel in the shape of a peacock. The container itself is comprised of a highly translucent light yellowish green hardstone cylinder, highly reminiscent of nephrite jade. The hardstone cylinder mounted in finely worked silver filigree to form the head and wings of the peacock. The silver filigree fully gilt. Brightly colored enamels have been used to highlight the feathers.
The container is topped by a fitted cover, also of finely worked gilt silver, with a knob finial as the handle.
The silver filigree work is especially fine and detailed.
