About the Item
An exceptional vintage Japanese satin cloisonne vase decorated with a floral design believed to date from the early to mid-20th century. This exquisite vase is one of the finest we have had the pleasure of handling and is round bottle shape standing on a narrow round silver footwith a tall funnel shaped narrow next and round silver metal rim. The body of the vase is finely decorated with a leafy stem with small berries using subtle tones of grey and red with a slightly golden outline to the wired design and with brown shadows of further leaves in the background. This simple yet effective artwork is set against a satin white ground with turquoise enamels applied to the inner vase. The base has a glossed finish with a central inset silver makers mark with a further rubbed mark to the silver foot rim. One of the most stunning cloisonne pieces we have come across.

In good condition with light wear associated with age and use. With some light wear to the upper and base rims.

A very fine and stylish antique oriental, Chinese attributed, cloisonne double gourd vase dating from the latter 19th century. The vase stands on a flat brass base with a wide round base, pinched waist and narrow round upper section with a funnel style top with a flat metal rim. The body of the vase is decorated with a mixture of flowering shrubs dominated with flowering hawthorn incorporating a butterfly to one side. The continuous scenes are decorated in colored enamels against a bright turquoise ground and set between formal borders around the foot, the pinched centre and top of the vase. The vase is typically not marked but is a striking and very stylish example.
