Japanese Meiji Dragon & Floral Pattern Cloisonne Koro & Cover
About the Item
A stylish antique Meiji period Japanese cloisonne Koro and cover decorated with dragon and floral designs and dating from around 1880. This delightful Koro stands raised on three brass feet supporting a rounded bowl-shaped body with a tapering shoulder with funnel shaped neck and domed cover with a flower bud finial. The body of Koro is finely decorated with small flowerheads set with scroll wirework patterning. The flowers blue on a brown ground and contained within an ornate border. The main body is scattered with larger colored floral blooms set against a black enamel ground while the shoulder is decorated with two scrolling dragons amidst stylized clouds and picked out in colors against a spattered copper metal and brown ground. The Koro has a brass rim with similar applied to rim of the cover which is also decorated with floral patterning set against contrasting paneling. The inner Koro and cover are finished in a blue enamel. The Koro is not marked.
Provenance: Acquired from the UK Art Market.
