About the Item
A Large Japanese Cloisonné Enamel Bottle Vase in the Style of Namikawa Sōsuke, with Quails and Autumn Flowers
Meiji era (1868–1912), circa late 19th century
Of globular body with tall slender neck and everted rim, finely worked in silver wire and coloured enamels on a pale turquoise ground, decorated with two quails foraging beneath flowering sprays of pink dianthus, their plumage delicately shaded in naturalistic tones, the reverse with further leafy sprays, all within gilt metal rims.
Size: Height 34 cm.
Condition: With an area of radiating cracks to the enamel on one side, adjacent to the quails; the base drilled, with associated enamel losses, from a former conversion to the lamp. General wear consistent with age. Refer to photos.
