About the Item

An exquisite Japanese miniature cloisonné chest by Inaba Nanaho of Nagoya, finely crafted in the early 20th century, bridging the Meiji and Taishō periods. This diminutive three-drawer chest is adorned with vibrant polychrome enamel over a gilt copper body, each side beautifully decorated with blooming chrysanthemums, peonies, and seasonal flowers in traditional cloisonné technique. The surface is finished with precise and colorful floral motifs on a white enamel ground, framed by rich gilt-metal mounts and raised on four shaped bracket feet. A finely engraved handle crowns the top, adding to its jewel-box charm. The base bears the Inaba studio’s round mark, attesting to its authenticity and origin. This rare object exemplifies the refinement of Japanese metalwork for export and domestic appreciation, and serves both as a decorative treasure and as a functional miniature chest for trinkets or jewelry. Dimensions: Chest: 3.75" H × 3.5" W × 2" D Total height with handle: 5" Condition Good. Minor rubbing to the gilt consistent with age and handling. Enamel surfaces are intact and vibrant, with no cracks or losses. Drawers glide smoothly and structure is stable.
