About the Item

A Kabuto Momonari-type samurai helmet, so named because of its characteristic shape resembling a peach, made of natural iron. The visor (mabizashi) is embellished with raised eyebrows, while the front decoration (maedate), features an elegant gold lacquered crescent. The side flaps (fukigaeshi) are adorned with the golden mon of the Takenaka clan. The rear neck guard (shikoro) consists of three large lacquered plates, while the front guard is distinguished by its five plates, the last of which is embellished with fine floral motifs in gilded bronze. The entire structure is complemented by woven laces in shades of dark blue, brown and ochre. The menpō mask, made of natural iron, is of the ressei type, characterized by a vigorous and determined expression, giving the kabuto an imposing appearance. Period: Edo late 18th early 19th century. Dimensions: 59 x 38 x 36 cm. Conservation status: Excellent overall condition. Slight wear consistent with the era is present.
