Chinese Monochrome Blue Peking Glass Bottle Vase, c. 1860
About the Item
With delicate form and bold color, this small blue glass bottle vase is a charming example of 19th-century Peking glass art. In a process similar to cameo glass, the vase began as a simple blown-glass form, which was then repeatedly dipped into liquid glass to create layers of soft blue color. While most Peking glass forms are then carved in relief, this vase was left undecorated to place emphasis on its refined, bottleneck silhouette. The many layers that comprise the small vase are traceable at the lip as concentric rings of blue hues.
Etched on underside with Xianfeng reign mark (1851-1861).
