Chinese Bamboo Calligraphy Brush Holder Carved With Scholars in a Garden
About the Item
Chinese Ming style hand carved bamboo brush pot carved in the round with various scenes against the background of a bamboo forest. Two women make tea on a stove while two scholars sit at a table waiting. Three scholars are shown playing Go under a large cedar tree, while wo other bearded sages rest in the woods.
No cracks in the wood and all carving is in great condition with no chips or missing pieces. Nice color and patina.
A wonderful decorative piece, makes and excellent vase for dry flowers.
The bottom has three carved feet.
6.75" high by 6 diameter.
Brush pots or brush holders were used by Chinese and Korean scholars, mainly to hold calligraphy brushes when not in use.
