About the Item
This is a very good Chinese cameo or overlay glass snuff bottle, which we date to circa 1920s.
These overlay glass cameo snuff bottles are very decorative and sought after, particularly with this level of excellent carved detail.
It is made of a green translucent glass which has been over-layed with an amber/ orange/ red glass and then hand carved and polished to produce a beautiful scene of two people stood beneath a tree on one side and another tree with a stand below, different on both sides. The green glass itself is also hand carved with clouds.
This is a very good snuff bottle, the overlay glass changing from a light amber near the to top through to an orange colour in the middle then red at the base. The carving is also good quality and very life-like.
The bottle has a rounded pink glass or stone stopper which is fitted with a bronze spoon.
