Monumental Calligraphy Brush 37" Marble Rings
About the Item
An extraordinary, oversize Chinese calligraphy brush with a collection of 14 jumbo marble rings divided by white satin ribbons. This massive brush weighs a whopping 4.5 lb with a giant solid wood ferrule that firmly holds strong yet flexible horse hair. The polished marble rings are in barrel form, each substantial. Historically such a brush was used to paint very large scale ink paintings or calligraphies, for the temples, schools, imperial court or other high institutions. A very rare piece that is not only still perfectly functional for painting or calligraphy, but also a bold, tremendous design element.
