About the Item

Suzani, a Central Asian term for a specific type of needlework, is also the broader name for the hugely popular decorative pieces of textile that feature this needlework in vivid colors with bold, expressive floral and botanical designs, natural materials and superior craftsmanship. The fascinating fine silk embroideries from Uzbekistan are perfect examples of Suzanis. Suzanis are embroidered with soft, glossy silk thread on hand-loomed narrow cotton panels, that are then sewn together to create a large surface. Their design, motifs and techniques vary depending on the region they come from. Chain, satin and buttonhole stitches are frequently used. The resulting look is a timeless one that delights the senses. A wide range of Suzani-style embroidered textiles were traditionally made by Uzbek women to be used as wall hangings, bed covers, screens, wrapping cloths, table covers and prayer mats in their homes and their children’s future homes after marriage. Today, a Suzani can be as versatile as you’d like it to be. With its soft, natural texture, it can be used and enjoyed in many ways as a wall hanging, bed cover, sofa spread, table cover, curtain and screen etc..It is a great decorative item that will bring a pop of color as well as a sense of elegance and sophistication to your home and can easily be blended with a variety of interior decor styles.

Vintage Uzbek Silk Embroidery Suzani – Crimson, Green, Ivory, Yellow, Purple
Located in Barrington, IL
This exquisite vintage hand-embroidered silk Suzani originates from Uzbekistan in Central Asia and is a beautiful expression of traditional textile artistry. Featuring two large central medallions, the design is finely stitched in lustrous silk threads across a rich crimson cotton background. The floral embroidery bursts with color—green, ivory, yellow, and purple—arranged in symmetrical patterns that speak to ceremonial and decorative heritage. Historically used in weddings and tent interiors, Suzani textiles like this one were symbols of prosperity and protection. Today, this piece brings warmth, depth, and a storied cultural narrative to modern interiors. It can be used as a striking wall hanging, laid across a table, or draped over a bed to add texture and history to any room. A remarkable example of hand-crafted Uzbek craftsmanship, perfect for collectors and design enthusiasts seeking one-of-a-kind textile art.
