About the Item

This textile is a “Suzani” from Central Asian nomadic peoples primarily from Kazakhstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan. Suzanis are embroidered textiles composed of mainly Cotton. They are cherished and admired for their elaborate designs, motifs and bright colour. The exact location that a Suzani comes from is challenging to confirm as they came from nomadic tribes, however the majority of Suzanis, and widely considered centre for Suzani origins is Uzbekistan. Due to its age this textile has some pulled threads along its edges, unraveled threads, marks and spots and fading of original colour. These have been highlighted in the images. However the textile still maintains structural functionality.
