Symbolizing Happiness And Longevity
Japan, a rare antique hemp noren (doorway curtain) with auspicious congratulatory crane and turtle figures symbolic for happiness and longevity. Hand sewn with lovely blue and white color hemp fabric and identical design both sides.
Age: Early Showa period, 1920s
Dimensions: 60 inches tall and 39 inches wide, includes seven hand sewn loops at top for threading a mounting rod
Quality: lovely blue, and white colors, with original old red and blue cotton ties for easy maintenance.
Beautiful Auspicious turtle and crane symbols on both sides
History of the Noren:
Traditional Japanese fabric dividers, hung between rooms, on walls, in doorways or in windows. They usually have one or more vertical slits cut from the bottom to nearly the top of the fabric, allowing for easier passage or viewing. Noren are rectangular and come in many different materials, sizes, colors and patterns.
