Pair of Vintage Children’s Scarf Cushions Pillows with Irish Linen Backing Pink
Located in Belfast, Northern Ireland
Pair of vintage children’s scarf cushions pillows with Irish linen backing custom made one-of-a-kind pair of super-cute cushions (pillows to our American customers) created from a set of rare vintage circa 1950s children's handkerchieves in an absolutely adorable designs. Safety first: This adorable handkerchief advises children to “Store Your Toys - Avoid Accidents,” reminding them if they don’t keep their rooms neat someone is likely to get hurt. It’s like a workplace safety poster for a kid’s pocket. The illustration is really quite charmingly detailed. A little girl who appears to have failed to pick up her toys has fallen on the stairs, breaking her doll’s leg and injuring herself. Her (apparent) sibling, or friend, is tending to her wound, applying a band-aid from a first aid kit. The room is painted pink, setting a beautifully bold backdrop to the scene, is cutely decorated with pictures of a dog and a duck and accessorised with a piggy bank, lamp, and teddy bear on the chest of drawers with a houseplant in the window. An item which is not really produced, bought or kept these days as disposable paper tissues or hankies have replaced this one time essential. It lovely to think that these little pictures and pieces of art would have once been cherished, perhaps a sentimental gift from a loved one. Never play with fire: The clear message on this educational child’s accessory is loud and clear in capitals ‘Never Play with Fire’ and rightly so. What cuter way to learn this lesson than with an exquisitely illustrated picture. A little girl and even littler boy at work in the kitchen, with a perhaps wobbly chair and dangerous situation frozen in time, baking equipment set out, matches up high seemingly out of reach, bright and cheerful curtains set against busy wallpaper . And most importantly an accident waiting to happen. Hand-picked by Katie and found separately at both Kempton antiques markets and an antiques shop in the Cotswolds, England, and transformed into children’s decor...
