About the Item

Stunning workmanship bucket with Lion's crest and showing the outdoor activities of Dutch farmers. In the Dutch Biedermeier era this handcrafted coal bucket would have graced the fireplace of a proud to be Dutch individual. Many of the Crests of Dutch cities would have (and still do) incorporated Lions in their crests, but since many have changed since, we are not sure which Dutch city this 19th century lion crest belongs to. The deeper meaning of these lions have to do with their majesty, strength, courage and they also stand for justice and military might. However, the lions are not the only exceptional feature here, because the design of this particular 'hod' and its bronze claw feet and oval lid too are unlike anything we have ever seen. The scenes of farmers and farmer's children portray them as they are enjoying the typical Dutch outdoor life, including ice skating and sleigh riding. Apart from being a work of art, in this day and age this 'hod' could also be used for other things than a coal bucket. For this antique to be in this marvelous condition still not only felt like a blessing, it also is like an ode to its maker. Simply because you just don't see this type of top quality workmanship and beauty anymore. Have you also noticed the original coal spade? It is beautifully incorporated in the top. If you are a collector of rare and sculptural antiques then this possibly unique bucket could be gracing your fireplace or living room soon. Our fair price for this stunning antique even includes perfect packing (in a custom made and strenghtened box) and also free worldwide delivery from our store to your door in just 4 to 6 days. Maximum width x height (without wooden handle) x depth: 13 x 15.5 x 17 inches. We have a passion for the unique, for quality, for stylish yet practical and for craftsmanship of years gone by. Your purchases will be extremely well packaged and we look forward to serving you (again). You can shop all our 1000+ listings by pushing the button that reads 'View All From Seller'.
