Art Deco fireback by Lucas, decorated with an owl

The design of this modern fireplace plaque draws inspiration from the art of ancient Egypt. On the left, a man wearing an usekh collar and dressed in a shendyt (the traditional Egyptian loincloth) leans on a staff and converses with a woman facing him, separated from him only by a papyrus plant. The woman also wears a wide usekh collar and a large draped garment that covers only her back, revealing her nudity at the front. She holds a papyrus. The man and woman are connected by overlapping friezes of geometric Egyptian-inspired motifs, echoing the ornamental structure of the usekh collars.
