About the Item
18th-19th century French Louis XV fireback depicting the abduction of Ganymede.
Ganymede was the son of King Tros, the founder of Troy, and the shepherd of his father's cattle. Homer describes Ganymede as the most beautiful of mortals. He is abducted by Zeus, in the form of an eagle, to serve as cup-bearer in Olympus.
The fireback is made of cast iron and has a natural brown patina. Upon request it can be made black / pewter. The fireback is in a good condition and does not have cracks.
