Late 19th Century Scottish Arts &Crafts Wrought Iron Fire Grate.

About the Item

A late 19th Century, Scottish, wrought iron fire grate in the Lorimer arts & crafts manner. A centralised single thistle with leaves standing proud. The shaped fire back, with a three barred rib section construction, the original riveted fire grate. All supported on a centralised leg with base bun foot, two further hammered rear support legs. This piece benefits from its original rear fire stone. All in solid condition, no wobble. One nut to the rear has been replaced. Sir Robert Lorimer (Architect) was a prominent designer in the late 19th century early 1900s. His chief blacksmith at that time was L Bennet based in Fife Scotland, he was tasked with turning his ideas into reality from his Fife forge. This piece is remarkably similar in design and construction to a piece on view at the National museum in Scotland. This may well be by Bennet, but this is conjecture.
