Italian 19th Century Terra Cotta Fountain

About the Item

A spectacular and monumentally scaled Italian 19th century Terra Cotta fountain. The most impressive fountain is raised by an elegant octagonal base with fine mottled designs and beautiful intricately detailed reserves at each side depicting mythological scenes of personages and Poseidon riding hippocamps and charming cherubs at each corner below a twisted rope and foliate bands. At the center are charming and exquisitely executed young boys and girls holding hands around the central support each draped in wonderful flowing garments with stunning intricately detailed facial expressions. The reeded bowl above is centered by a circular mottled pedestal support where a handsome young man draped in a flowing garment is leaning on a baluster from where the water comes out. Stunning attention to detail and powerful palatial scale. All original patina throughout.
