Italian 19th Century White Carrara Marble Fountain
About the Item
A stunning and most important large scale Italian 19th century white Carrara marble fountain. The extremely high quality wall mounted fountain is raised by three elegant scrolled supports with lovely foliate designs supporting the impressive seashell shaped basin with exquisite sculpted reeded wave designs at the underside and a smooth finished interior with curved spouts from where the water overflows. The sensational scalloped background displays three masterfully sculpted and most charming cherubs with wonderful facial expressions playing amidst vines with exquisite grapes and leaves. At the center is a finely detailed ram's head with the water spout in its mouth with a cherub directing its head toward the coupe of a cherub below lying on the beautiful scrolled support. The cherub above is standing on the ram's head leaning on the top border while draped in a superb exceptionally executed flowing fabric. Wonderful proportions and exquisite attention to detail.
