Large birdcage in Japanese style, France, circa 1900
About the Item
Important Japanese-style birdcage simulating a two-level pagoda.
The cage’s structure is in painted and patinated wrought-iron supporting transparent glass partitions. The bottom is in painted wood.
The roofs are in patinated copper and zinc, the highest decorated with small painted wooden charms.
The top of each of the two floors is adorned with stamped copper plates decorated with gardens, pagodas and birds.
There are two doors at the front and two at the back. The bottom trays slide out from the front for easy cleaning.
