Roger Tallon Sculptural 'Helicoid' Staircase

Roger Tallon for Galerie Lacloche, 'Helicoid' staircase, aluminum, rubber, France, design 1964, production 1960s This striking staircase with a rubber step surface is called the 'Helicloid' staircase and is part of the "M 400" series by Roger Tallon. The piece is executed in cast and polished aluminum and features black non-slip rubber on the surface. This particular model comes with twelve steps plus a bigger floor step. The staircase is featured in the permanent collection of the Museum of Modern Art in New York. Roger Tallon (1929-2011) was a French Industrial designer. Tallon was trained as an engineer. He designed hundreds of products, including Industrial Robots for Peugeot, refrigerators, tableware, lamps and furniture. An extraordinary Helicoid model M400 staircase by French designer Roger Tallon, 1964. Tallon originally designed this piece for Gallery Lacloche Edition in Paris and it has since become a piece of design history. This iconic staircase features a steel central pole, on which twelve polished cast aluminum paddle shaped steps are affixed in a spiral. The bottom landing step is slightly larger.
