About the Item

Magnificent Grand Scale Late 18th Century Qianlong Period Spinach Green Jade Bowl On 19th Century Gilt Bronze Stand By Henri Picard. To have created a sculptural bowl of this exceptionally fine form & scale, from this most highly prized & valuable stone, highlights the mark of a master Lapidary worker. A rich dark green, that reacts fabulously to light is a masterpiece in design and palatial refinement. Later mounted on a wonderfully drawn and richly gilded Bronze triform stand, by the master Bronze worker, chaser & gilder, Henri Picard, being stamped on the feet. The purity of elegance, extraordinary fineness of sculpting & rarity in the magnificent scale of this Museum quality work of art cannot be overstated The important Fondeur and Doreur, Henri Picard, worked in Paris from 1831 to 1884, most notably for the Emperor Napoléon III. He was based in Paris at 6 rue Jarente from 1831 to 1839, before moving to 10 rue de la Perle. The firm was active until around 1890. Celebrated for the high quality of his production, Henri Picard supplied many important patrons, including garnitures and table pieces for the ‘’petits appartements’’ of Emperor Napoléon III at the Louvre. An important pair of twelve-light candelabra by Picard remain in the Musée du Louvre today. In the history of the art of the Chinese empire, Jade has always had a special significance, comparable with that of Gold and Diamonds in the West. Jade was used for the finest objects and cult figures and for furnishings for high ranking members of the Imperial Family.
