About the Item

A masterpiece of Art Deco design showing the strong influence of French Cubism, this bowl depicts clusters of highly-stylized figures to the right and left, evidently on the edge of a balcony overlooking the city, with buildings to be seen in the distance. The heads have an African-influenced stylization, which impacted Picasso, Modigliani and many other important artists in the 1910s and 1920s. The artist, Claude Levy, created a number of important ceramic pieces for Primavera, the famous shop established by Le Printemps department store, as well as Longwy.
