About the Item

An exquisitely crafted, rich, quite large wood art bowl by American master woodturner/California artist (Indiana born) Bob Stocksdale (1913-2003). Signed and marked ("Black Walnut from California") by the artist on the base/verso. The piece radiates in the light. Gorgeous grain pattern. Stocksdale's many honors include the American Association of Woodturners Lifetime Achievement Award (1998) and the Masters of the Medium Award, James Renwick Alliance (2003). Stocksdale received the American Craft Council’s Gold Medal in 1995. His works are prized by collectors and appear in the permanent collections of the Smithsonian American Art Museum, the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, the Oakland Museum, the Philadelphia Museum of Art, and the Royal Scottish Museum in Edinburgh, Scotland to name a few. Would be a fantastic addition to any collectors of Stockdale's or other Mid-Century wood turners work make for an eye catching stand-alone accent piece in about any setting. Condition:

The bowl is in very good vintage condition with no cracks, chips, etc... and light if any natural organic wear consistent with age and use (primarily to varnish which could use an oiling. Please see photos). Beautiful and engaging overall.
